Robin Muto Interiors

Rochester, New York

Photography by Matt Wittmeyer Photography

Robin Muto’s take on interior design is unique because her creative passion originated from appreciation of fine art. Growing up in NYC, Robin had opportunities to visit museums and accompany her parents to showrooms when they were building their dream house in Long Island. Robin’s first BFA degree was from SUNY College in Upstate New York where she majored in Fine Art and English. After a career of making ceramics and selling her pottery at craft shows, Robin wanted a change of focus. She enrolled in the Rochester Institute of Technology to earn a second BFA, this time in Interior Design. With this and becoming a Certified Lighting Consultant from the American Lighting Association, Robin transformed her career.

Today she is a passionate creative, and has strived to design unique spaces for each client she’s met since founding Robin Muto Interiors. Robin believes the spaces she designs also need to have a sense of familiarity that is comfortable and welcoming. A down-to-earth woman herself, Robin appreciates a home that is both beautiful and comforting. “I'm not just a designer, but I'm a maker, a maniac gardener, I love playing with my grandchildren, and I love my Birkenstocks!” Her designs over the past twenty-five years have delighted her clients, and she doesn’t plan on quitting anytime soon.

Robin Muto Interiors provides full-service interior design to Rochester, NY, the Finger Lakes region, and Western New York. This multigenerational family home in Rochester, New York, is a beautiful example of Robin’s interior design work. At the start of the project, the family gave Robin only a few keywords with which to work: tufting, swivel chairs, Oriental rugs, crystal, the color blue, and kid-friendly. Robin took their inspirations and created a living space that showcased the family’s personalities perfectly.

The new sunroom incorporates a pair of swivel chairs and a custom tufted sofa, and the living room features one of Robin’s favorite elements of the home: a massive, custom-made chesterfield sofa upholstered in royal blue velvet. Throughout the home, pieces of artwork grace the space, each telling a story about the homeowners’ travels to foreign countries. In the end, the clients were in love with the design. The way Robin had combined all their favorite things into a uniquely comfortable and family-friendly home made their hearts happy.
